Welcome to Beautiful Downtown Chicken Alaska

This sign is painted on the end of the city water tank in the tiny village of Chicken, Alaska.

Full time residents in beautiful downtown Chicken, Alaska number 11, although when one takes in the greater metropolitan area that number soars to 23. It is in east-central Alaska, 88 miles from Tok, Alaska, on the Taylor Highway, and 102 miles from Dawson City, Yukon Territory, via the Top of the World Highway. Both highways are only partially paved. The road, and all of the local businesses, close in winter.

I just finished reading "Tisha". Now I want to see the place called Chicken. In 1960, I made a trip along the Alaska Highway, and I must have gone by there ,but I didn't know about the story then ,or I would have stopped to visit. Interesting !!! Yukon and Alaska are so beautiful and historic .
