Confederate Battle Flag
This Confederate battle flag flys beside the Confederate Monument in front of the South Carolina State Capitol.
As a descendent of several Confederate soldiers who fought under this flag, defending their homeland against an invading northern army, my heart swells with pride and respect every time I see it .
Like more than 90 percent of all Confederates, my ancestors in Georgia and Alabama did not own any slaves. In fact, some of my ancestors were abolitionists and civil rights activists in their day, just as were many of the Confederate political and military leaders. They fought because their homes were attacked by slave owning Yankee generals, such as Grant and Sherman. Three out of four of my ancestors who fought in that unfortunate war died, along with more than 600,000 others - soldiers and civilians, black and white, slave and free.
The Confederate flag represents self government, and resistance to an out of control federal empire.
