Fire and Ice

Friday night during our workshop we did a little night photography at Convict Lake. We were hoping to see more of the Milky Way but that would require staying up later. As it was we only had 3.5 hours until the sunrise shoot!

I knew the Milky Way was directly west this evening but didn't realize that Convict Lake is oriented to the Southwest which put what we could see of the Milky Way to the right of the shot (most of the Milky Way was overhead anyway).

In this image we briefly light painted the rocks with an LED flashlight during the f2.8, 30 sec. 3200 ISO exposure for the sky. I was amazed at the amount of light pollution coming from the western side of the Sierra (Fresno and enviorns I think)!
