Kitamikadoguchi Gate

Ise Jingu is a complex of over 125 Shinto shrines in Mie prefecture, centered around the main shrines of Naiku and Geku. These structures are revered as one of the most holy Shinto locations in Japan. The main shrine buildings cannot be visited directly and photos are prohibited except for whatever one can see over the tops of tall gates or through fences. Along with being the supposed home of the Sacred Mirror (Japan's imperial regalia), it is such a holy site that the head priest or priestess must come from the imperial family.
