Toyotomi (Hashiba) Hideyoshi was one of the greatest leaders in Japanese history, and known as one of the "three unifiers" of Japan along with Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu. This mausoleum is located in a mountainous area of Kyoto, and takes a great deal of time to walk the many, narrow stairs. It is definitely a tough climb, but worth it, even if you only do it once. I believe there is a donation/fee of 100 yen to view the main edifice, a gorin-to at the top of the steps.
