Steps to the Shrine

Hotoku Ninomiya Jinja is a Shinto shrine located on the grounds of Odawara Castle Park. The shrine dates back to the late 1800's, but the main hall was rebuilt in 1909. A key figure of the shrine is Ninomiya Sontoku (1787-1856) who has been deified in Japan over the years. Born a peasant, Sontoku studied and worked hard and became a wealthy and famous philosopher and agricultural leader.
