Sumiyoshi Taisha: Haiden

Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka is the main Sumiyoshi shrine in Japan. These shrines are dedicated to the three Sumiyoshi okami, as well as Empress Jingu (169-269). The shrine was founded by Tamomi no Sukune in 211, and has become the most important and popular shrines in Osaka. Unique architectural elements of the honden design have lead to the use of the term Sumiyoshi-zukuri. It is the oldest example of this type of architecture.
