The main hall (honden) of Temmangu shrine in Osaka.
Osaka's Temmangu shrine is the most famous of all Tenjin shrines in Japan. It is located along the Tenjinbashi-suji shopping arcade, and originally dates back to 949 AD. The current shrine dates back to 1845, since the original(s) burned down several times. Sugawara no Michizane is the principal deity of this Shinto shrine. It is also home to one of Japan's three great festivals, Tenjin Matsuri, held every June.
