Kamigamo Shrine: Wedding
A wedding processional just in front of Kamigamo jinja in Kyoto, Japan. In front of the bride and groom is a miko (shrine maiden).
Kamigamo Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Japan, and the oldest in Kyoto. It was built in 678 during the reign of Emperor Tenmu. It is an UNESCO world heritage site, and many of the structures are important cultural property. Much of the shrine's nearly 700,000 square meter complex is designated as a Preservation Area of Historic Landscape. Kamigamo Jinja is considered a pair along with Shimogamo Shrine--together known as the Kamo shrines.
