Summer Storm-Richmond Virgina

    Newer Older

Its been a fun filled weekend for the Gunther family. My mother-in-law, after several years of hard work, graduated this weekend from the University of Richmond with her bachelors degree in liberal arts. My wife Jennifer and I flew out to Richmond, VA for the occasion to celebrate this wonderful achievement!

Between graduation activities and with the help of a friend, Kristen Emerson, I was able to get downtown to setup for a sunset shoot overlooking the James river and downtown Richmond. To my wonderful delight a summer storm started rolling through and a wonderful lightning storm began just as "blue hour" started. I couldn't have been more excited to be able to witness and photograph a truly "once in a lifetime event" and being just at the right place at the right time was an understatement. It was awesome.

As you can see there are multiple lighting strikes in this photo. This was achieved by stacking several photos in photoshop and using the "Lighten" layer setting to add each strike into a single photo.

Special thanks goes out to Kristen Emerson for driving me around downtown Richmond looking for this spot and hanging out with me for the hour and half I spent waiting on just the perfect light. You Rock!

Nice shot. I live in Florida, the lightning capitol of the world and still don't have any lightning shots. I'm Jealous.
