There is so much going on here. Where did they get that sea blue color for "mart"? Who blotted out the I in IHOP? WHat was the MIDDLE sign?

The middle sign was for a Staples that went out of business, this was taken about 15 minutes from where I live.

@nick.schu: Ahh, I wonder what they are building over there where the furniture store and staples used to be. 15 minutes for me as well, just down 22 east...

This is AWESOME! Love to know that other people prefer the old Kmart logo...and was this in the ghetto, may I ask???

    10. Joseph Hoetzl 77 months ago | reply

@fourstarcashiernathan: Not really a ghetto - certainly not Beverly Hills, but it is a poorer section of NJ...

      Great classic sign.
Why is the I in the IHOP sign spraypainted off?

    12. fourstarcashiernathan 75 months ago | reply

I remember this type of hand painted logo....Beautiful. The Hills dept store that used to be by my house in York Pa. had a painted Hills wall sign in the parking lot . It has since been painted over and I never thought of taking a photo back then.

@retrosigns Cool stuff indeed - I am amazed at how many views this photo gets (I guess it being used on consumerist helps too).
Thanks - nifty stuff in your stream too!

Ha, just saw this on consumerist. I worked at that IHOP in HS. I don't know if I'd call North Plainfield "da ghetto"--most of it is still pretty firmly middle class. But still, awesome. Gave me pangs of homesickness.

@Whoa! Sweet Jane Glad it could evoke some emotion! IHOP still in business too!
