State Theater

The State Theater is a historic movie theater located in Downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Michael Moore recently purchased it after years of obsolescence.

    There are few places I'd rather be when the weather in Traverse is this nice. Do you have any idea of this theater's age? It was hard for me to tell.

    According to Wikipedia, it was built in 1918, rebuilt in 1923 after a fire, and was known in those early years as the Lyric Theater. It closed in 1991 before being renovated for the Traverse City Film Festival in 2005.

    I wonder if it got another makeover at some point then, since none of those years sound like they would be the right time for the exterior paneling.

    I think it was remodeled in the 1970's
