La Piedra de Peñón
This classis Colombian tourist trap is well worth the visit, about 1.5 hours outside of Medellín, for climbing the huge monolith (think Río's Sugarloaf Mountain) for enjoying views of the countryside and man-made Resorvoir/Embalse de Peñon-Guatapé.

I came on a Sunday; the place was packed and well worth the experience! Admission is 7,000COP for climbing the 6,000+ steps - easier than expected thanks to a double stairwell for up/down.

The Lonely Planet info for getting here is totally wrong, beginning with name of the place. It's Peñón, and asking for a bus to Peñol will only get you to the nearest town.

And definitely well worth the trip extension is visiting the nearby town of Guatapé.
