Hotel Casa Real
Hotel Casa Real
Based on a recommendation by another traveler, this turned out to be a better alternative than Lonely Planet’s budget listings around the seedier Parque de Bolívar.
At 27,000COP/US$13.50 a night for a single with double bed, (no discounts for extended stays), I couldn’t have been more pleased with a comfortable place to call “home”.
Room came with private bath and hot water, daily maid service, tv/cable, phone and sufficient fan. #301 had a circular, secure balcony that overlooked the busy intersection and vendor-filled plaza, with plenty of round-the-clock noise yet I always managed to sleep soundly, including daily naps!
Fresh tinto always waits in the lobby, and staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful – including current maids, with no fear of room thefts despite still taking precautions.
The El Palo neighborhood is mostly businesses (including numerous other older hotels) and while the area definitely looks rough around the edges it never felt unsafe, even being out walking late at night.
The downtown location is prime and convenient, one block east of Cra 46/Avenida Oriental. The San Antonio metro station, where lines intersect, is only 4 blocks away and everything within El Centro an easy walking distance.
The hotel had just changed ownership and still did not have a computer on-site. If using their website to make reservations and not getting a response within 48-hours, call the listed number or contact me. Most of the staff have added me on Facebook.
