It was 19:30 when I arrived for the last northbound ‘Loco Hauled’ working of the day, plenty of time to get set up and find a decent position on the platform for the shot, then at 19:44 hearing over the loudspeaker “the 19:44 train to Carlisle is currently 30 minutes late and will run non-stop” – meaning it wasn’t due until 20:15 at the earliest. With this in mind, I decided to go right up the platform and reverse into the corner of the fence. It arrived, at 20:15, as expected, but stopped and allowed passengers on anyway. Not to worry, the evening light was wonderful, as well as being rather warm. Anyhow, here’s DRS Class 37/4, 37423 ‘Spirit of the Lakes’ arriving into Maryport at 20:15 with the 2C47 17:31 Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle service.
