NORML-Mid Atlantic-Panelists Pose
More than 40 years after Nixon declared the War on Drugs, in poll after poll, a majority of US citizens are saying that it is time to put down our arms and come up with a new approach. Multiple polls show that over 50% of US citizens favor taxing and regulating cannabis as a legal product. Over 80% favor legal access to cannabis for medical purposes. Last November voters in two states, Washington and Colorado, approved taxation and regulation of cannabis. 18 states currently allow legal access to cannabis for qualified medical conditions. In light of this powerful shift in attitudes and legal reality, the cannabis law reform movement came together on March 16, 2013 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to consider the current state of affairs and the landscape that lies ahead as they continue to work toward ending cannabis prohibition. Lawmakers, former law enforcement officials, entrepreneurs, media makers, and activists came together at the first ever National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws Mid-Atlantic Conference.
