The Definition of Serene
By far the most challenging part of photographing this scene is avoiding the throngs of people who are enjoying area. I had to be on the ready to pick my shots between the swimmers, sunbathers, rock throwers consisting of families, children and toddlers as they meandered in and out of the scene when they weren't plopped right down in the middle of it.
It wasn't all bad though. My hike to Tunnel Falls just before this return visit did a number on my feet and soaking them in the cold water for about an hour was just what they needed.
I'm told that during the spring the water level is quite a bit higher and the rocks you see are a couple feet underwater. To get this shot at that time you'd have to wade over to this location as the falls would be blocked by the large rock to the left. I crossed the water on my first trip down and had no desire to do it again. The bottom is identical to the rocks you see above the surface, only very, very slippery. I can't imagine trying to do it waste deep in freezing, flowing water carrying all my gear.
