Sun Spray

If you've followed my last several shots, you know that Brad McGinley and I spent a night a few weeks ago trekking around Rocky Mountain National Park. The night began at Dream Lake watching the sunset behind Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain. It was close to 70 degrees in the Bear Lake parking lot when we began this hike and got down to the low 40’s before we got back to the car. That’s a lot of layers on top of the camera gear to schlep up there. Fortunately, it’s a pretty easy hike and really it doesn’t compare weight-wise to hiking in the winter.

We were a little disappointed in the sunset this evening. Everything looked like it was going to be fantastic, but as the sun reached the point where the color should have started only a few sparse clouds were to be seen. We could tell by the glow in the air that other areas were fairing much better, but on this night the best shots we got had the sun a bit higher in the sky. Fortunately, this wasn't even close to the best shots we were rewarded with this night.
