Bernauer Strasse Berlin 1978

    Newer Older

Buildings bricked up to form part of the 'wall' before the wall was built

The building on the right was a 'felt shoe and slipper factory' at some time.

The first victim of the Berlin Wall was Ida Siekmann on 22th August 1961 who died as a result of her injuries caused by her jump out of a Window in Bernauer Strasse where buildings were in the middle of the border itself, one side belonging to East Berlin and the other to West Berlin.

Haha! I'm not surprised there are other photos of that place. We were taken there as part of a bus trip round W. Berlin, and I imagine it was part of the tourist trail of interesting things to see.

Thanks so much for contributing to Daylight Robbery. If you haven't done so already we would be delighted if you could add any more of your work that you think is suitable.

Think of the group when you are out shooting and see a blocked up window. Your work is always welcome at Daylight Robbery.
