‘Water Cut’ by Mary Bourne
This sculpture, carved from Cumbrian Salterwath limestone, can be found alongside the track known as Lady Anne's Way, near Outhgill in the Eden Valley; it is one of ten, known as the Eden Benchmarks, commissioned for the new millennium and situated on public paths along the length of the Eden Valley.
We had just walked along Mallerstang Edge (seen in shadow on the horizon behind and to the right of the sculpture) and down Hell Gill Beck, the source of the river Eden. Despite the ominous looking clouds, we didn't get any rain.
