Nocltilucent Clouds 01/07/2011 - 02:04 BST (sequence 6 of 9)
The clouds were quite bright this morning but did not extend that high (~ 10 degrees) above the horizon. As I watched the display over a period of around 15 minutes it appeared to split into two distinct formations. To the left it condensed and brightened while on the right, it expanded and more structure became evident. Shortly after this, the clouds to the left slowly dissipated while those to the right continued for about another hour.
This is the 6th of nine shots that show the evolution of the process.
Taken with a Nikon D700 and Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 lens (6 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 400)
