Studio stack: Taking a closer look
This is the face of a wasp from the genus Ectemnius viewed through a microscope objective.
Stacked from 95 exposures at 15:1 magnification (full frame, uncropped).
This is a prepared specimen that has been sitting in the freezer since the last shooting session (see images below). It's fairly well preserved but you can see some craquelure behind the ommatidia facets that wasn't there before.
The objective used is a Mitutoyo 10x 0.28 M Plan Apo mounted on a Nikkor 300mm f4.5 ED-IF (AI-S).
