mono lenten rose at the botanic garden 09Mar19
From two weekends ago at the botanic garden when the lenten roses and daffodils were about the only flowers blooming other than those in the greenhouse conservatory.
After working with the colour version in LAB, a copy of the image was made. The green channel was copied as a layer over the the colour background.
The red channel was copied as a layer over the green and Blend If sliders were used to block its darker areas, letting the green's dark areas show while letting the red's highlights show.
The red channel was copied again as a layer over the previous red layer and this time a hide all mask was used and painted upon to only allow the red's dark leaves to show in certain areas.
I was surprised to see how well the rendering to black and white allowed the flowers and leaves to stand out so well against the background. I suppose I shouldn't have been as the background's colours were predominantly soft browns and blues while the flowers and leaves were primarily strong purples and greens.
I learned a lot by working on this.
Happy Monochrome Bokeh Thursday!
