5th Ashes Test Match England V Australia at The Oval 2001
As you can see this rain thing is nothing new, I went to every Ashes Test Match during the Summer of 2001. Unfortunately, at the Oval on Bank Holiday Sunday we saw about an hour of cricket in very dark conditions and then rain, the whole day was depressing I was sitting next to a group of Manchester United supporters from Watford urhh, on the way home my car broke down and I was towed back along the M40, when I got to Birmingham I found out they had glorious sunshine. The following day the Aussies bowled England out to complete an innings victory, Mark Ramprakash who announced his retirement this week scored 133 in England’s first innings.
In those days I took photographs to paint from with my film camera, I wasn’t bothered about the quality of the image or in this case the series of images, The prints would be assembled in a rough way just to give me some idea of the layout and scale. When I found these I scanned them and then processed them through Photoshop CS5 excellent panorama function, and to my surprise apart from the sky it worked. I have many more that I will try to do in the same way although I doubt they will be successful, this one works because there are no players and movement.
