Wild horses on a hillside at sunset, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota. We stopped for a day here on our drive out to Yellowstone.
Folks, if you're in the area, don't just pass through. Take a day, or even just an afternoon, and drink in all the sights to see in this gem of a national park; it's one of my favorites. It's also one of the least-visited parks in the system. Some evenings it seems like you have the place to yourself. Well, you and the bison and elk and deer and horses and snakes and prairie dogs. And if you're lucky enough to witness a nighttime thunderstorm, park your car, sit back, and marvel at the best light show nature can provide. It's a magical place.
