[Photo and narrative by my mother]
Jerry and I visited his friend Jim Farrage at his garage and service station in the south end of Grand Rapids at mid-century. This was a true "service station," not just a gas station, as is familiar today. The two fellows grew up together in the neighborhood of South Division and Franklin and attended South High School (also the alma mater of Gerald R. Ford, a few years ahead of them.) Jim immediately poured his guest a drink from his private stock. Since he was working, Jim had an O-So Grape.
A companion shot shows my mom and dad that same day.
