Jerry stands in the upstairs kitchen placing an order for building supplies. He had witnessed the hunger for housing in postwar times, and began to see the potential in his building. When the large upstairs apartment became vacant in 1950, he felt we should divide it into small one-person apartments. By that time I had married the landlord, and now assisted him in the renovation.
