Island in the Sky

    Newer Older

While hiking up to Grotto Falls in rain and fog, I came across a park employee on his way down from the summit of Mount LeConte (the second highest summit in the park). Jokingly, I said to him "socked in fog up thier eh".
To which he said, "nope, crystal clear on the summit". I turned around on the trail, ran back to the car, broke about 15 traffic violations while racing to the summit of Clingmans Dome. I made it to the summit and it was indeed clear and the clouds were rolling across the ridges. I waited until the last light of dusk to make this image. No filters, single exposure of 45 seconds @ ISO 100 at f16.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Amazing Image with a frame around the photo , and we'd love to have this added to the group!

This is the invitation into one of the groups of the "Amazing Image" flickr group series.

I decided to create a generic version of my invitation code to use for my new groups in the series. This group might not yet be fully linked into the group series and may lack an icon if I did not yet find a suitable photo for the icon in the group pool.

I selected your photo for inclusion in my Amazing Image project which consists of linked flickr groups. With this invitation you have the chance to contribute to the early phase of a project which might evolve into one of the most exiting places in flickr. Getting invited by an administrator is the only way to get your image into one of those groups.

On the other hand all people are welcome as members even if they don´t have photos to contribute. Just click on the banner on top to get to the group page.I personally have just 5 or 10 photos among 8,000 that fit well into this group series in quality and popularity.

This group series aims at inviting some of the most amazing images found on flickr to create amazing quality group pools concentrating on a narrow topic in each group.

I know that your image is one of the most amazing that can be found on flickr and likely got a lot of attention and invitations already. I hope you don´t mind to accept just one more invitation.

Some of the groups in the project:

In contrast to a normal flickr group the administrator selection of all images in the Amazing Image group series makes sure that all the images in the group have almost the same high quality as the photos shown above.

Incredible shot -- I'd like to see a crop without the orange sky in it.
