A standing stone in Jamestown wood

Standing Stones

In Templeorum , Owning and Piltown there are many "Standing Stones". Some however have been destroyed . These Stones are of Bronze Age. Their purpose remains a mystery but may have been erected as boundaries and are to be found near double ditches.

The tallest Standing Stone is at Garryduff crossroads known as "Cloch Fhada".

At Jamestown , an ancient settlement of Anglo Norman origin stands another stone. Tradition says that there was a bloody battle between Templeorum and Kilmanahan.
