The Burj Al Arab, Dubai

Capturing Dubai's ultimate landmark, the Burj Al Arab, has been nothing but a pleasurable and breathtaking journey. The surrounding ancient architecture provides a powerful contrast to the stunningly modern 7-star hotel: a 321 meters modern palace of pure hedonistic luxury that usually befits only to the kings and royalties.

Dubai is a land of contrast, but the old and new edifices of the city blend-in quite harmoniously. Skyscrapers are designed with reference to the glory of the Arab culture, which is so commandable in order to provide a sense of place and evoke a sense of cultural regionalism.

Architect: Tom Wright, of WS Atkins (UK's largest multidisciplinary firm)

Interior: Khuan Chew, of KCA International
