365 - 88 - Be Gone, Grease!
Last week I was cooking dinner, like the awesome wife that I am. Suddenly our apartment was filled with smoke. And nothing was in the oven! The smoke continued to pour out of the oven for probably a half an hour after we had turned it off. Upon inspection, the entire bottom was coated with some sort of oil or really thick grease. I really don't know how it happened… I hadn't even spilled anything!
So, naturally, I avoided looking at it for a few days, and we survived by eating only using our little Breville oven. But today, the time had come to face the Grease Monster. So I slapped my rubber gloves on, grabbed a big bowl of soapy water, a sponge and a scouring pad and went to town.
An hour later, I emerged, and the bottom of the oven (and racks) is probably 85% clean. Most of the Grease Monster is gone, leaving only small traces. And I got my arm workout in for the day. I'm hoping that it's clean enough to use again!
