Gnomon and Nodus Description: a 3” thick 20 ft. long polar axis tube gnomon extends downwards towards the south from a 10” support tube. I call this a “floating gnomon”. The lower end of the support tube has a cone nodus that casts a shadow on the Solar Noon date line.

Type of Time Notation: Sundials show Mountain Standard Time (MST) when readings are converted using The Equation of Time.

Date Markings: The following significant dates will be marked on the Solar Noon Line on the horizontal dial: the equinoxes, the solstices, the date of dedication, the date of incorporation of Oro Valley, and the date of Arizona Statehood.

Solar Noon Line: A Solar Noon Line will be on the face of a polar axis bronze date line mounted on a concrete pedestal.

Sundial Plaza: Surrounding the dials will be a handsome plaza with benches and landscaping.
