My favorite secretary #2
A secretary bird at Burger's Zoo, Arnhem, the Netherlands. Just love the chaotic look of this bird! But don't let it's name & looks fool you: it is a bird of prey!
The name probably refers to the fact that office clercs used the black feathers on the head of the bird forwriting, or, according to another story, because clercs used to put their pencil behind their ear. The latin name (sagittarius serpentarius) indicates one of the food sources of this amazing bird: snakes. A secretary bird can swallow an entire snake in one 'bite' (after trampling the snake with its feet).
Please feel free to take a look at more of my beautiful birds pictures, or take a look at my "all creatures great & small"-collection. All photos are free to use, but I would appreciate credits :). All it takes is a link back to this page and/or a tag 'jinterwas' on your picture.
I´d also love to see the result of your creativity, so a link to your photo (or website you use this picture on) or a small size sample in the comment section would be great :)) !!
Please do not abuse the CC-licence by claiming anything in my photostream as your own, nor to sell it on a compilation CD and/or internet.
Thanks for looking at and/or using anything on my photostream. Any comment is much appreciated :) !!
