Mexican wolf (Canis lupus)

The Mexican wolf is a subspecies of the grey wolf. Small populations persist in northern Mexico. There have been several recent attempts to reintroduce this subspecies into New Mexico. (For more information check the Defenders of Wildlife website www.defenders.org/wildlife/wolf/ellobo.html ). This animal was photographed at The Living Desert in Palm Desert, California.
