St. Louis arch at night

The St. Louis Arch is lit at night, by spotlights from below, which cast shadows on low lying cloud cover just above the top of he arch. Streetlighting from the cit cast the odd salmon-colored glow onto the clouds.

The spotlights create a spectacular display but also contribute to the light pollution that is common in and around all major metropolitan areas Shot for National Geographic Magazine for our story on light pollution.

Straight shot. No layers.
