Panther Beach - Davenport, California
Beach Clean-Up Sunday, May 24th 4-6pm
One of my favorite beaches is also a trash heap. I guess there is something about getting high and drunk that flips a switch in some people's brains to act like idiots and leave their trash right next to the ocean that they specifically got high and drunk in order to enjoy.
And hey, I've been there. I've gotten high and drunk at the beach back in the day, but I don't think I ever just left all my trash on the beach. So, years later, here I am, photographing beautiful stretches of the California coast and every time I get filled with a feelings of both happiness and utter sadness.
So, I figured one way to create a feeling of warm fuzziness is to enlist others to help clean up the beach. It's a simple task, and it benefits us all. I'm not out to change the world, just to make sure the next time I shoot Panther Beach, I don't have to clone out cigarette butts, plastic bags, and beer cans! You see, it is all in MY best interest. ;)
So, if you live close enough to join us, we will be meeting at Panther Beach at 4pm on Sunday, May 24th.
We will comb the beach for two hours, clean up, and then stick around to shoot sunset. It is Memorial Day Weekend, so parking could be tight and we may be picking up a lot of trash in those two hours.
Bring gloves and bags, I will bring some as well. Send me a Flickr mail if you can make it.
And as for the shot, well, I posted a vertical version a few months ago, and here is the horizontal for those like like there landscapes in landscape orientation.
