Blackfoot Polypore, Polyporus leptocephalus

There was absolutely loads of this on a very old sycamore in Lathkill Dale. It was between the track and the river on the section above Bateman's House. The tree has been debated over the years, as sycamore is usually removed (as it is invasive in the ash woods) and because it is near the track/path and potentially a hazard. On the other hand it is very old and habitat for all manner of plants, animals and fungi. So far it has been pruned to make it less likely to fall over, but it has remained.

SK 19 36 (can't be very accurate because knowing where you are in a wood is near impossible). 20/07/09
