Walk with me—I want to show you my favorite spot.
It's a grassy headland near my house, and from it, you can see a 60-mile stretch of the coast, two lighthouses, rocky coves, forested ridges, and a beach.
We can sit here in the grass. Look—here's a survey marker from the US Geological Survey. We're 481 feet above sea level but only about 500 feet from the sea. Birds soar below us.
The fog is coming in, teasing at first, then embracing. Smell—warm, sun-dried grasses, cool, briny fog, then back again. Land and sea, trading solos.
I told you you'd need that jacket.
Let's head back. There are oranges to squeeze.
