Jackie Stewart's Splash

Jackie Stewart calls this his toughest race, the 1968 European Grand Prix at the wet Nurburgring. Stewart started sixth, took the lead halfway through the first lap and finished more than four minutes ahead Graham Hill.

Photo taken with a Nikkormat FTN, Nikkor 50mm lens, manual focus, Kodak Ekatchrome film. In 1968, spectators could just lean over the hedge and take photos like this. The car is Ken Tyrell's Matra MS10 with power from the Ford Cosworth DFV (double four valve) running on hand grooved Dunlop rain tires.
