False dayflower

Commelinantia anomala. Normally a picture of a flower in bright daylight with a dark background is the worst of all possible photograhic worlds, but this worked out better than I expected.

Looks like someone was out at hornsby today?, I was out there till almost noon shooting with Dave Welling, The lighting worked pretty nice as you suggested here and show here nicely

Nope, Eric, this was at Zilker Gardens where I was hoping there would be enough flowers to draw some butterflies. (There were some flowers, but no butterflies to speak of.) The greenhouse at Hornsby gives you that great wrap-around glow that you have in your photo of this same plant and also of the tree frog, if I'm not mistaken.

Zilker was just bright sun against shade which normally is bad, photography-wise, but in this case gave the flower some 3-dimensionality that I liked.

      yes, I like the lighting
it really brings out the colors and contrasts
interesting that they call it "false" dayflower
since it's in the same comalinaceae family as the "true" dayflower
which is what I'm used to seeing around here
      Crisp blue

Jim McCulloch I seen that your tag said Zilker but I had posted it already and decided to leave it be, and yes the frogs are in the green house also and the light there is pretty nice most of the time and breeze isn't an issue most of the time
