Stranger 60/100 - Jim
I decided before I left my apartment this morning that for my special New Year's Day stranger portrait I would approach the first person I saw. THAT would make a great theme for the day I thought. Unfortunately I chickened out. Or...not so unfortunately perhaps.
After passing up a couple walking their dog (just didn't feel right) and a young woman with her Starbucks in hand (seemed in a hurry) I came around the corner to see Jim enjoying his book, his coffee and a fine cigar on this cold but sunny New Year's Day.
It's funny that after 7 months and 59 portraits I still get nervous sometimes. I guess those nerves are just telling me it's not right. I'm so happy that I held out for Jim! He lives a couple blocks from me and has been in the neighborhood about 35 years. And just like every year, he hasn't made any resolutions. I'm thinking that he's starting off 2009 just fine without them. Happy New Year, Jim.
