On March 14, 1910 Lakeview No. 1 blew out as a gusher when the drill hit 2,440 feet. Hailed as the largest gusher in America, the flow lasted for 18 months, releasing over nine million barrels of oil. The peak flow was estimated at 90,000 barrels per day, and a small river of oil flowed out to fill a lake of oil. These photos were taken on January 2, 2010.
