Such an ace moment well done.

I don't think you could have planned this any better if you tried! Perfect!

    Perfect timing! Well caught.

Great shot - but it woud have been even greater if
you'd got the whole of their reflections in, maybe?

Indeed, at least the following four technical improvements would have made it better:

    Full reflections
Lower exposure (the swan on the left is slightly overexposed)
    Lower ISO
    Wider aperture/smaller depth of field

Weird - and frustrating - how we don't notice reflections till we see the shot on the monitor. (Shadows is the other one - guess our brain filters them out because it's smart enough to know there's nothing there - so we have to try to be "stupid" again ... )

Swans are hard to expose - like light-coloured flowers. Safer to underexpose (which you can correct later) than expose "correctly" and risk blowing out the light bits (which there's no way you can correct).

Nice to know other people make just the same mistakes as me (except the ISO, as I'm still shooting negs!).

Great image... don't let being too caught up in technicalities take away from capturing the moment which is a key photography skill/with a bit of luck!

Heh. Thanks David :) Iwas indeed concentrating on capturing a nice moment rather than worrying about the technicalities (or even perfect composition) too much. Hopefully as one's skills improve one can manage both simultaneously :)
