Monument of Memmius

Ephesus, Ancient City of Anatolia, Selcuk, Turkey.

Mithridates of the Pontic Empire on the Black Sea killed 80,000 Romans and conquered the area in 90BC. Three years later the Romans, under the command of General Sulla (Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix), reconquered the area. To commemorate the victory, Sulla's grand son Memmius built this monument. The figures on this monument are Memmius' father and his grandfather Sulla.
