Giza Population Growth
Giza, a suburb of Cairo and home of the Great Pyramids of Giza, is a growing city. Once a city of farmers and agriculture, it is now experiencing a spike in population growth, as is the Nile River Delta area as a whole. Once alone in the desert, the Great Pyramids of Giza are now visible from the city, and the metropolitan area is growing around them and closer to them.
This Giza street shows the typical view from a paved road in Egypt. Most of the main streets in Egypt are paved with blacktop, and have traffic from camels, horse-drawn carriages, trucks, cars, and pedestrians.
The sign in the upper left corner is a campaign poster, as this photograph was taken in 2012 before the election of current President Muhammad Morsi.
