Afghan archeologists with a freshly discovered hoard of gold and jewels at Mes Ainak, south of Kabul. A team of international archeologists and around 250 labourers are excavating a series of ancient Buddhist monsteries and settlements built around one of the world's largest copper deposits, which may have beenfirst mined by humans as early as 3000 BC. A Chinese state mining company has bought the rights to exploit the mine. Archeologists are trying to excavate the site and salvage what they can, before it is destroyed.
