Mick and Suzanne

Mick and Suzanne absolutely fab in 1950's style at the afterparty of Burlesque Ballroom, Netherlands, Rotterdam, Cinerama theater, 12 September 2009.

Suzanne went notably through some lengths to go in Burlesque style, with her striped dress, flower in hair and cigarette to finish it off, even though she is not a smoker. "So I don't really inhale", she told me with a smile.

This episode of the 3-monthly event was part of the De Wereld van Witte de With festival.

Strobist info

Perhaps not really off-camera for purists, because the flash is indirectly attached to the camera through a (quite big) bracket. This enables me to quickly move around and use both hands to hold the 1D Mk III steadily with rig. I used one 580EX II, in ETTL mode with high-speed sync turned on) on a Tristar BK-5 VH Twin Chevron Flash Bracket with Telescope Stand and Cross Bar. I used a dual ETTL flash cord for triggering (only one part used).

For this shot, the flash was approx. 0.5m (20") below the camera. I used a KT-D4 Diffusor Softbox to get a through-umbrella effect. Besides strobe, at ISO 2000 and 1/10 shutter speed (F 4.0), ambient light gives the shot some atmosphere and a softness in the upper parts.
