Last year at about this same time, I took on a search to find a pair of footwear that I felt could last me for the rest of my entire life. I wanted to get a balance between a dress shoe and a rugged boot and ended up with the Wolverine 1000 Mile boots. They are the type of footwear that slowly (with a little work) conform to the exact shape of your foot and only get better with age. I even wrote a post about them when I first purchased the shoes from Len Druskin.

So far, they have provided everything that I had hoped. Although I don’t get to wear them as often as I’d like (they aren’t typical office footwear), I have been able to initiate the molding process. In the photo, they look more worn than they actually are – but every little ding and bump is part of their character.

I cherish them now, and expect that to continue well into my old age.
