Bøyumbreen

    Newer Older

This southern arm of the Jostedalen glacier; Bøyumbreen, is probably named to honor a local rescuer and TV celebrity. (On flickr he modestly calls himself storeknut.)
Of lesser importance is the fact that this stretch of Norwegian Highway 5 (riksvei 5) was officially opened in 1986 by a guy with some obscure connection to the area, Walter F. Mondale.

GeirB,, Steve-h, George Psathas, and 12 other people added this photo to their favorites.

      Excellent landscape!
From my limited experience with the world, that sheet of ice looks rather odd alongside the green mountainside. Very striking sight and beautifully composed with the road.
I love that little puff of cloud at the top. : )
