MT Supermarket Austin Texas: green tied rice

I started out my Saturday morning in a way that I really love, with a mini adventure. I had gone to Austin's Chinatown for Chinese New Year earlier this year and had stopped in to their huge MT Oriental grocery store and bought a collection of fun exotic foods. I can't remember why I didn't shop and linger, really exploring the store but I had decided that I would go back some day and shop at my leisure. I love that store. (I do wish it had a larger dim sum selection like the Chinese grocery stores in Chicago...) Anyway I am filling my cart with every interesting thing to eat and shoot (one of my favorite props!) when I get a call from the fellow I am seeing, the long and the short of it is I end up bringing the feast to his house to shoot it. That turned out wonderful. He has gorgeous dishes and he set most of the dishes out for me. Lots of things tasted interesting. Some things were a slight disaster. You never know when you are trying new food. I loved eating the black mochi balls (we never eat black food here in America!). I loved the plum wine but it was too sweet for Ciege. I loved the moon cake with the golden lotus filling. And sesame balls are one of my favorite oriental sweets. Ultimately I have to thank Ciege for all his creative endeavors that made this shoot turn out so well! :)
